All Are Welcome Here | Community Resources | Minneapolis, MN

A lot has changed in our world recently.

I recently mentioned that no matter what, you are welcome at my studio, and I said that I might write a more full post about that topic given everything going on. This is that post. It won’t be long, and if you don’t want to read about the current state of things… then you can definitely go learn about my winter mini sessions, or how to choose the perfect outfit for your session.

But just for a moment… we’re going to talk about the last few weeks. Because while nothing has concretely changed (yet), so many things have changed. The way we look at our fellow Americans. The hopes we have for the future. Uncertainty in education. Uncertainty in the protection of our rights. The protection of the rights of our friends, family, and neighbors.

So many futures, hanging in the balance. It is my hope, that as we approach what are sure to be tumultuous times, we can lean on eachother in powerful ways, sharing love, and remembering that whether we’re a part of the LGBTQ+ community, the disabled community, communities of color – regardless of our sex, gender, or religion – we matter.

I want to make my position clear

As we enter this new saga, regardless of the impacts it has, I want to make one thing AGGRESSIVELY clear. You are welcome in my studio. You are welcome in my sessions. Jessica Strobel Photography will remain a safe space for you, no matter your orientation, the makeup of your family, your religion, your race, your nationality, your level of ability – all are welcome here.

You will be treated with respect and care, like the incredible, amazing, magical human you are – and no statute, executive order, or legislative shift will change that fact.

Now more than ever, it is imperative that we care for eachother, create healthy boundaries, and prioritize living in a way that shows love.

If you have the capacity, consider contributing

I know that this is a troubling time (to say the least) but it is the time where, if you have capacity, you can help. And there are community groups and organizations that you can contribute to with your time, via donations, or by attending events they host and showing your support.

This isn’t an exhaustive list, they’re just a handful of starting points for you, if you want to get involved.

OutFront Minnesota

Outfront Minnesota is a 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy group that organizes everything from election volunteering, to movements for legislative change. They even include interfaith opportunities for religious groups looking to ensure the community knows all are welcome in their faith practices.

Queermunity

According to their website, “Queermunity is a resource center and social club committed to bringing the LGBTQ+ community together in Minneapolis.” They have a membership available, and host inclusive events you can take advantage of as a community member.

Twin Cities Pride

Did you know that Twin Cities Pride has an event listing for inclusive community events OUTSIDE of the larger advertized events? Well, they do! Take a look at the events calendar on their website, to get an idea of things you can attend (or volunteer for!) in the Twin Cities region.

Support Black Lives

This list from Minneapolis.org goes through a whole suite of Black-owned businesses, efforts you can make to learn about Black history in Minneapolis, as well as community groups you can support and events you can attend.

Get Familiar with the Numbers

Minnesota Compass is a data evaluation organization with a wealth of information about the demographics, perceived well-being, and more related to Minnesota communities. Knowledge is power, and their data is used by a variety of organizations to help plan community outreach, and support programs.

No matter what, you are welcome here.

As I’ve said, this list is in NO way exhaustive, and I would love to add any group you feel is contributing to the health of our communities in Minneapolis and Minnesota at large as we head into the next four years.

But no matter what, I want you to take away one thing from this conversation. You will ALWAYS be welcome at my studio.

Together, we are strong. <3
