Collaborating is the core of Jessica Strobel Photography
Recently, I shared some details about one of my collaborators, Kat Regas, because it’s super important to me to keep collaboration and community at the core of what we do here at Jessica Strobel Photography. It’s a big deal – a rising tide raises all ships, and I like to make sure that leads my decisions.
And it was a huge part of bringing on both Kat and Katelyn, so today, we’re going to take a minute to get to know a little bit more about Katelyn Mayne, another collaborator who you will see working with me in the studio!
Getting to know Katelyn Mayne
Q: Tell me a bit about your journey as a creative!
A: As long as I can remember, I’ve just been making stuff. When I was a kid, I used to write, direct, and edit sock puppet performance videos, just for something to do. Any idea I have in my head, I just figure out a way to make it happen. I’ve learned that the best way to learn a new skill is to enjoy the process. I was a huge theater and show choir nerd in high school and I love to sing and perform and just try things. I think that performing gives me a lot of confidence, which translates really well into my creative work, and has helped me immensely with meeting people, coming up with ideas, and believing in myself.
Q: What’s your favorite creative/artistic thing to do on your own time?
A: I design and sew dresses in my free time. My inspiration comes from the 60s and 70s, drag queens, pop stars, Barbie, anything bright and colorful. Right alongside that, I also play guitar and write music. I’ve performed at The Whole Music Club, Twin Cities Pride, and a few festivals and things. I love it so much!
Q: What do you love about working here in the studio?
A: I love that we are able to give people a platform. There are so many dynamic, interesting, and passionate people out there that have things to share, but they don’t have the time or energy or knowledge on how to communicate their message effectively. And that’s where we come in! I love that we can help people present the best versions of themselves and be excited about the work we do for them.

Q: Do you have an artistic degree? If so, why did you pursue it?
A: I have a double degree in Strategic Communications (Advertising & PR) along with Film & Production Studies. When I started college, I didn’t really have any specific vision, but I took a digital drawing class and it just sent me on this path of learning every Adobe program. Advertising seemed like a good fit because of how creative and eccentric everyone is, but I added on film because I wasn;t learning enough about how to actually produce and edit good content.
Q: Do you have a favorite type of session to work on, or project-based aspect of your work with Jessica Strobel Photography that you want clients to know about?
A: I really enjoy doing video interview content sessions with our social media clients. Hearing them talk about their work and how passionate they are, I love that we are able to capture that and share it with a wider audience. It’s also a wonderful way to really get to know our clients and understand their voice and perspective, which then we can use to make amazing and tailored social media content for them. It’s a win-win!

Q: Has there been a moment in your work with Jess that has really stuck with you? A moment with a client, or an aspect of the work that you find fulfilling?
A: Sometimes when I’m laying on the ground, shooting a stop motion NKOTB doll video, I get filled with this insane gratitude. Because this is literally my dream job! I love to make things, and I love that Jessie encourages us to be as creative and insane as possible.
Q: If there was one thing you could tell potential clients looking for a photographer, what would you want them to know about JSP?
A: Jessie is a person-first photographer. She goes out of her way to make a personal connection with every single one of her clients. There’s a reason so many clients have worked with her for so long, and it’s because she cares so deeply on a personal level. On top of that, her professionalism and efficiency to deliver amazing photos with no hassle. I feel so lucky that I get to watch how she works and learn from her.
I’m so thrilled to have Katelyn joining the Jessica Strobel Photography team!
