There are Lots of Minneapolis Family Photographers
I’m the first person to admit that Jessica Strobel Photography is not the only Minneapolis Family Photographer you have the option of working when when you’re looking to book family photos. There are so, so many talented, brilliant photographers in the greater Minneapolis area, and if you know me, you know I’m all about community over competition. I’d love for you to work with my studio, don’t get me wrong. And I’d be absolutely honored to photograph memories for your family. But that’s not actually what we’re talking about today.
Today, we’re talking about the benefits of working with a family photographer consistently, because let’s face it. There are straight up benefits to staying with the same photographer year after year! Yes, whether that photographer is me, or someone else.
Working with one Photographer Long Term has Benefits
There are so many things to think about when you’re choosing a family photographer. Everything from where they’re located, to whether they have a studio, to what wardrobe options they have available… even what’s included in their individual packages should play a role in your decision making! And let me tell you, you’ve got options. Minneapolis family photographers run the full spectrum of price, included products, included prints, wardrobe changes… you name it. So no matter what, there’s a photographer for your family’s needs.
When it comes to some services your family needs, like… insurance, for example… it makes sense sometimes to switch things up. I mean, with insurance, switching periodically might mean you get better rates, so like, why not, right? But for other services, like photography, staying with the same professional comes with more benefits than it does drawbacks. And we’re going to walk through some of those today!
1 – Consistent Images to Decorate Your Home
When you’re having a family photo session done with a Minneapolis Family Photographer, I hope your plan is to print them after. Not just because your photos deserve more than just sitting on a hard drive, but because YOU deserve more than letting those memories fade into the background. Displaying your photos in your home is a powerful reminder of your favorite people, and it means you get to relive those moments on repeat, every time you walk through your foyer.
But like I said earlier, there’s a lot of options for photographers to work with. And those photographers all have unique styles. What does that mean in practice? Well, sometimes it feels nice to switch things up, and experience another photographer’s style of working. Get images edited in their personal voice. But… if you’re hanging those images in your home? As maximal as I tend to be with design choices, it just makes SENSE to keep things consistent. When your summer family photos are edited by the same pro who edited your winter family photos… they’re going to look amazing on the wall next to each other. And that’s what you want in your family memories! A collection that makes sense together, and feels like it follows your people flawlessly through time. Magical, right?
2 – Relationships with You and Your Kiddos
This one is for the parents of neurodivergent kiddos out there, especially. But also for anyone, at the end of the day! Working with the same Minneapolis family photographer (or family photographer anywhere, really) year after year means your kiddos (and you) build a relationship with that professional. I literally make it my job to get to know what makes your kids smile.
What does that mean when your school aged son becomes a moody highschooler who doesn’t want to smile for ANYthing? Well… it means I’ve got the inside scoop on what’s going to work, what’s NOT going to work, and how to make sure you end up with the most gorgeous memories possible out of your session. The same goes for neurodivergent kids as a whole. Building that relationship means they’re going to be more comfortable in front of the camera, and more comfort, means better photos. Photos that represent who you ARE, and who your little ones are. If you’re switching studios, or working with a new photographer every year, you just don’t get the same relationship building that you would have access to otherwise, because… well, it’s just not possible.
3 – Familiarity = Low Stress
Beyond the relationship side of things, there’s also the familiarity that builds up when you work with the same Minneapolis Family Photographer for your family sessions year after year. And I don’t just mean familiarity with the photographer, as in, what we just talked about. I mean familiarity with their processes. Everything from booking your session, to talking them through your vision, to what they expect you to bring with you to your session the day-of.
Obviously some things are going to be the same whether you’re working with me or working with another photographer – but there are definitely major differences in photographers’ processes, that can make a difference in your stress level, not just your kids’. For example, photographers take different approaches to ordering products and images after your session. When you work with some studios/photographers, you have a separate sitting where you come in and talk through what images you want to purchase. That’s totally different from the way I do it, where after your session, you get access to a gallery of photos that you can choose from easily, and quickly, online. Badabing badaboom, you’ve got your photos! And you can order physical products right from that gallery, too!
It’s not that one or the other approach is better – that’s not why I’m talking about this. I’m sharing it, because when you get comfy with a photographers’ process… it’s just SO much easier to stick with it! And if you stay with the same photographer… odds are, you’re going to have a similar experience between different sessions when it comes to their process before, during, and after your session. Meaning you’ve only got to go through the stressful “I don’t know what’s next” place ONCE. And then forever after? You know exactly what you’re doing.
