No matter what, your business promotion should be BRANDED

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know how important it is to brand EVERYTHING that goes out to promote your business! When you’re promoting, it’s about creating an ecosystem – it’s about bringing your clients into your world, no matter what size your business is.

Whether it’s your social media feeds, the website for your business, or the video that you’re using in all of those places, it needs to tell your future customers or clients who you are. It needs to set expectations, and help them pre-qualify themselves for working with you. Take my website for example – I like to think it makes it pretty clear that I’m… well, fun. I’m quirky. What you see, is what you get, and I’m going to tell it like it is. And I set that expectation everywhere you see my stuff! On social media, on here… everywhere.

It’s Especially True for Video Content!

When you’re creating video content for your business, it might feel a little more complicated than the branding for your images. Since well… video MOVES. But the standards for bringing your branding into your video content are actually pretty similar, and today we’re going to go through those steps, so that you are TOTALLY prepared for your next video session! Whether that session is here in the studio with Jessica Strobel Photography, or in that little space you’ve set up in your home office. We don’t discriminate here!!

Do you know your brand voice?

The first question to ask yourself before you get ready to record video (like I said, whether that’s with a pro, or on your own!) is whether you feel really clear about your brand voice. If you’re not familiar, your brand voice is the way that you communicate your cool stuff to the cool people who are going to hire you, or buy from you. It’s the standards that are threaded through your work, but like… as a tone.

That might sound a little weird if you’ve never thought about it before, but if you haven’t, it’s time to think about it!! So… if you already know your brand voice, think about it. Maybe even review your ideal client avatar, or go look at the other content you’ve created to get really inspired by the tone! If you don’t know your brand voice, take a moment to think about what you want your clients to know about you right off the bat. Like, the moment they see your stuff, wherever they’re seeing it, what is the most important thing for them to know about you immediately? THAT is what you want to root through when you’re working on video content for your business, to make sure it’s in line with your brand overall!

Consider how you’re going to dress

On the practical side of things, we do have to think about the visuals. Because, like I said, we’re talking about moving pictures here. So there’s a hugely visual aspect to that communication! Are you going to wear the colors for your brand? Are you wearing something that is super comfy? What about the set – where ARE you? Are you going to take it in your office? How can you make the space help communicate those things you’ve chosen?

For example, if you have a really casual tone to your business and the way you work with clients, it might be beneficial to set up for your video content in a space that feels casual, and warm. It wouldn’t be the same in front of a white wall, right? That’s more for those who are creating content intended to be really focused, and super professional! But let’s say you need your video content to communicate BOTH warmth AND professionality! Well… there are ways to do that too. Try creating a space with warmth through plants, and maybe some geometric components in the background – but not TOO much that it gets cluttered, because that’s not what we’re going for.

Remember, when you’re working with Jessica Strobel Photography for your business video content, we’re going to talk about ALL of those things before the session, and if a space/set needs to be created in the studio… we will make that happen FOR you!

Consider what you’re going to talk about, and HOW

Beyond what you’re wearing and where you set up for videography, when you’re thinking about branded video content, it’s also important to consider what you’re going to talk about and how. And I know that might seem like it’s super obvious, I mean, when you’re recording video, you’re going to need to know what to say. But the “what” and the “how” are actually super branded elements of your video content. Think about it – they’re just as communicative as the visuals in your video, and they need to line up with your business’ tone!

So like the previous example, if you have a more casual tone in your business overall and you want to make sure your clients see you as fun and approachable, it might be best for the things you discuss in your video content stay casual! Conversational, even. Bring in your personality, and make sure that your people know what it’s going to be like to work with you. If you have a more professional tone or you need to really lean into communicating expertise… then you’ll want to take a different approach! You can still keep things warm, but maybe keep things a little more formal, less conversational and casual in your tone. If you’re writing a script ahead of time (which isn’t necessary for EVERY type of video, but can be really helpful for some!) keep these in mind when you’re writing your content.

How are you going to use the video itself?

Your branded approach to video content is also going to naturally have to take the “where” into account – and I don’t mean “where” you’re filming, I mean where you’re putting it! Is this content for social media? Your website? An ad you’re going to run? All of these placements (look at me, using technical terms) need slightly different approaches, even if you ARE leaning into a specific tone. On social media, it may even be a good idea to be more casual if you tend to create professional content for other places. After all, social media is social – it’s for connection. If you’re creating an ad that’s going to go out to a large audience, you might want to keep things a tiny bit more formal, even if you DO usually use a super conversational tone in your content.

Now I do have to give this the caveat, that there is ALWAYS an exception to the rule. Every business is unique, your brand voice is unique, and you need to approach it in a way that works for YOU. But at the end of the day, as long as you’re thinking about these things, you’re headed in the right direction!
