Posting on Social is DIFFICULT
The actual act of posting stuff on social media isn’t hard in itself, it’s just clicking some buttons, really. But that’s a massive oversimplification, as anyone with a small business knows. It can take ages and ages and ages to actually come up with the content itself. Not to mention making the graphics to go with them (unless, spoiler, you check out the templates in my shop, which can speed things up a ton!) and heaven forbid you’re aiming to post more video because then… well, you have to record video. Lots of it.
There are SO many social platforms for you to post on
And none of that even starts to touch the fact that you’ve got a ton of platforms to post on. Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Google Business (yes, you can make posts there), LinkedIn – and then all of the platforms that are more specific to industries themselves, too. Like Houzz, for businesses that do home renovation or interior decoration. On top of THAT if that wasn’t enough, there’s all of the fringe-platforms, like Threads, or Clubhouse. There’s SO MUCH to keep up with content for – and it’s entirely unreasonable to expect yourself to be in all the places every day. We’re just not in a place where that’s possible anymore.
Not all platforms are made equal
But when it comes to choosing platforms you actually want to post on, not all platforms are created equal. And you might be thinking “this blog post isn’t about where to post, it’s about reusing content? Why are we talking about this?” but the reason IS that not all platforms are created equal. When you’re considering reusing content, you actually have to think about what platforms you’re creating for, whether the content will re-post there well, how you collected/created it in the first place, and even more.
Re-using content is about STRATEGY because posting is about STRATEGY
It might feel like re-using social content, or posting the same content across multiple platforms, is a no-brainer way to make sure your business gets seen in all the places without you having to be a content creation machine 24/7. And I would love to tell you that you can just take the things you plan to post on Instagram and put them other places too, and that the content will just work like magic. But the internet isn’t magic, and marketing isn’t magic, it’s strategy.

Your business CAN re-use content, in specific situations
Now that’s not to say you can’t re-use content in specific situations! For example, Instagram posts and Facebook posts can be scheduled simultaneously in Meta Business Manager, and I would totally recommend posting them at the same time. Now, that being said, it’s super-duper best to remove the hashtags (if you use hashtags) from your Facebook version of any given post! Because Facebook doesn’t use hashtags in the same way Instagram does. You might be able to do similar things with your Facebook/Instagram/TikTok reels, depending on your niche! You might be able to post the same video to all of those places. But again, I would recommend writing separate captions for them, because Instagram and Facebook vs Tiktok have different hashtags that perform well and get content in front of your niche.
You might be able to repost longer form content from Facebook on Linkedin, if you use Linkedin. And equally, you could pop your posts from X onto Threads, because of the similarities in format! But you’re going to be far better off starting with a concept, and creating targeted social items for specific, hand selected platforms, that you KNOW your audience will be spending time on.
