Five Reasons You Need a Spring Family Photo Session | Minneapolis Photography

Your Family Photos Are More Important Than You Might Think!

It’s January, and it’s snowy, and it’s cold, and I know it feels like it’s a weird time to talk about spring pictures. But… it’s actually the BEST time to talk about them, because as of now, you still have time to plan ahead! I also know you might think I’m kind of required to tell you that it’s always time for new pictures. Like, since it’s my bread and butter, and all (guilty, as charged). But honestly, having family photography done is more important than you think! That’s why I do it.

You deserve to remember your kiddos growing, no matter how old they are. But, there’s way more reasons that you DEFINITELY need a spring family photo session, and we’re going to walk through a whole bunch of them!

1 – Spring is a MAGICAL Time For Photos

The first reason, is spring is just straight up magical. Like, look around. Well, maybe not yet because like I said, we’re under aggressive amounts of snow right now. But like, imagine it! The leaves coming into the trees, flowers budding and starting to bloom – all the green coming back? It’s gorgeous. And it’s gorgeous when it’s behind you and your favorite people, too! Spring photos are magical photos. Even if you just had a mini session for Christmas!

2 – They’ll Sort Out Your Family Gifts All Year

Another magical reason to update your family photos this spring, is they can truly sort out your family gifts all year. There is no grandparent who doesn’t want pretty pictures of the grandkidlets for their birthday, or an album for Christmas. And if there are, I certainly haven’t met them yet. Plus, you can get super creative with what gifts you have them made into, as well! You don’t have to stick with prints in frames, there are all kinds of professionally (or artistically!) created products you can find online, on Etsy and otherwise, that your family would LOVE.

3 – Your kids are STILL GROWING

I know I say this in EVERY list I make about why you definitely need new photos, no matter what season it is… but that’s because it’s literally true every second that we keep living. Your kiddos… are still growing. Whether they’re six, or twenty-six. They’re changing. They’re living lives. Sometimes those lives are in your house all the time driving you mad and leaving their sneakers right where you’re going to trip on them. Sometimes those lives are in another city. And sometimes, those lives involve them being off somewhere else, starting OTHER lives, and giving you grandbabies. But no matter how old they are, or what the situation is, they are STILL growing and changing. And they always will be, because we really don’t get out of that as humans. I know we say there are two certain things (death, and paying taxes) but I personally think there’s a THIRD thing in that list. Change. So, this spring, take the opportunity of new growth in the world around us, to document new growth in your family!

4 – It’ll Keep Your Photos Updated Before Holiday Pictures

Spring isn’t always the first time of year people think of when they think “updated pictures”. And honestly, a lot of families actually think “Christmas” or “the Holidays” because every year they have holiday pictures done. But… holiday pictures can’t be the only images you have of your people! Well, they can be, and I will not shame you for that (any pictures are better than no pictures!!) but like, the vibe is TOTALLY different between, for example, an outdoor spring photoshoot with your kids running around outside and having fun, and an indoor, winter photo session in the studio. I’m not trying to say you SHOULDN’T get those studio photos – I love studio images, and I love being able to document your family when it’s super cold outside. But what I AM saying, is you definitely want both. You deserve both.

5 – Family Photos Are An INVESTMENT

Finally, you should get updated family photos this spring, because family photos are an investment. You get to look at them ALWAYS. Forever, you will have those images frozen in time. You’ll be able to look back on the face your husband makes when your little boy jumps into his arms. The look on your daughter’s face when she holds her sister’s hand. Those little details, when you have a photo session to update your family images, will be documented forever. Whether you use them as your phone background, put them in a digital rotating frame, or print them and hang them on the wall – you have those memories now. They’re YOURS. And not only yours – your family’s. Your grandkids will be able to look at their parents at their age, and all kinds of other magical moments are suddenly created in the future, the moment I click the shutter.
